Kate Howe: The Image Generator.

This immersive workshop will look at some of the most complex questions artists face at every stage of their career: From where does the image arise? What are the conditions that make the image arise?

Part One : Please bring one item in which you find fascinating, and one mundane object. Firstly, we will be looking at these objects as Image Generators: using them as leaping-off points. We will be working in Sumi Ink on mulberry paper and charcoal on newsprint before moving to mixed media.

Part Two: The Image Generator in Nature. We will be walking with our drawing and painting supplies to Bushy Park (5 minutes away) where we will look at the landscape as an image generator, and will spend the day pushing and pulling, being true to form and letting go of form. Then, we will do some writing around some of these concepts, and will begin to prep a final piece.

Part Three: We will be working on long duration pieces, using and leaping off of image generators, mixing them and letting go of them. We will discuss the work and the process as a group in a constructive crit at the end of the week, should the group desire this.
