Andy White: The Eye of The Beholder
“Art is in the eye of the beholder and everyone will have their own interpretation”
Being a relative newcomer to art and without any formal training I have no set discipline or style and do not consider myself an artist but rather a generator or translator of ideas. My paintings jump from one style to another reflecting different influences or surroundings and composition becomes a matter of chance where anything might occur.
Although there is no obvious theme or link to my work and subjects vary from painting to painting I do tend to try and break down subjects into shape and form looking for patterns and motifs within the noise.
I am intuitive rather than considered or planned in my approach and I try not to overthink my work. What I am not trying to do is to challenge the viewer, there are no hidden subtexts or complicated inspirations. It is simply whatever I felt worked on a particular day. This often works for me because it comes from something that doesn’t have to be understood or explained, it is whatever the viewer wants it to be.
